Today Ayla got to play with one of our favorite dogs in the neighborhood, Emma. She is a HUGE Great Dane mix and just the most lovable dog ever. She normally walks with at least one other dog, and sometimes up to 3 others. Those are the times when she and Ayla are barely allowed to interact at all. But today, Emma was walking with only her “brother” dog, some sort of Shepherd I think, who never leaves the house without his mostly deflated soccer ball or a squeaky toy that has long ago lost its squeak.

Ayla clearly wanted to play with at least one of the dogs and since the male dog is very protective of his toys, things weren’t looking too good for Ayla. But the owner noticed that Emma and Ayla could have some chemistry so she took her off leash and boy did those two have fun. It was so funny to see them playing together because Ayla’s back doesn’t even clear Emma’s stomach…and Emma can pretty much just run right over Ayla. Ayla was getting flipped and trying her best to keep up with Emma as she was running around the field but she really doesn’t have much chance yet lol. Apparently Emma’s “brother” thought she was getting a bit too rough so he came over and joined in the fray, quickly pinning Emma and putting her in her place. Then the two of them started playing, leaving Ayla to try to trail along behind them.

It was absolutely great to see them playing together, especially since Emma is a huge dog and up until about a week ago, Ayla was pretty scared of dogs bigger than her. But apparently she is becoming much more comfortable with herself and understands that she is going to be a big girl one day soon also. We are so lucky to have such a well balanced puppy…and for having never been to any sort of obedience class, we are even more pleased about our success so far.
