On the last weekend in May, our little village comes alive with the sound of old-timer tractors. Since the next yearly festival is nearly upon us, I figured I better hurry up and get these photos up! I’m only a couple months behind…
The old-timer tractor festival has been going on for 18 years and there are around 200 tractors and old trucks on display. Some of the featured tractors at the front entrance every year are the Americans, an Allis Chalmers and a John Deere from the 1970’s.
I want to say this John Deere is from 1975 but please don’t make me swear it’s true. It’s a really well maintained machine, though.
I have no idea what sort of car this is but the MM on the license plate suggests a Morris Minor. It reminds me of the old Woody’s trucks that surfers always drive.
There was a little pickup truck sitting with it – perhaps a Morris Minor as well. Unfortunately there were no signs on either of them and I was too mesmorized by all the sparkly tractors to look closely at the emblems.
This old truck had actually been converted to run on a wood burner. The owner had written out plans and a description of exactly what he’d done. I think he was one of the most talked to people at the event.
This was the burner he used. Again, it was really hot out and there were tons of people so we just sorta passed through, but I bet this guy would be a great person to know if you want to get creative and build a wood burning heater for a hot tub like we do. We sure do have grand ideas, huh?
A lot of the people who participate in the event spend at least one night at the festival grounds in their miniature RVs. Aren’t these just the cutest things you’ve ever seen? They’re only sleeping quarters and maybe a camping stove but after you’ve been drinking heavily for hours, who really cares as long as the bed stays in one place?
Here’s a few more highlights from the event. We didn’t get photos of all of our favorites, but these are a few we don’t see so often. Gotta love those Hanomags!
What fun Tiffany. I do take exception to the ‘old’ term for a 1975! I graduated from high school in ’73 and I am not old! (!!?!?!?) haha
LOL! You’re so right. Old isn’t the term. But what is the word I’m looking for? Seasoned, perhaps? It doesn’t qualify as an antique or even a classic. But they consider them all old-timers at this festival so there really is no discrimination 🙂
