Those of you who know me well and congratulated me last Thursday (or close to it) about my birthday, thank you once again. You’re all too kind. Although this was one of those milestone birthdays when you enter a new decade, we did not decide to have a big party. Part of the reason is my friends are spread all over the globe right now which makes things complicated. And then there was just my indifference about this birthday altogether that left me lacking the will to plan some big party…or even a small one. I’ll make up for it with Mackenzie’s first birthday and Thanksgiving, ok? I’ll even throw in some extra Christmas cheer for you…
For my birthday, I got a new Samsung laptop after my Gateway melted down. I love my new laptop and in retrospect now see that the Gateway was on its way out for a while…I just didn’t want to admit it. I also got a Blackberry which put me fully on track to being in touch with the world wherever I go. Is that always a good thing? Probably not. But at least when I’m out, I’m not out of touch. And twittering on the go is just too fun. If only I could get TwitterBerry to send photos finally I would be in heaven…but that’s a topic for another post. And because I got these gifts early, my husband also brought home a beautiful bouquet of flowers after getting off work early. Talk about a good day! The whole house smelled like lilies this weekend…it was wonderful. This picture doesn’t nearly do them justice but the bouquet was HUGE! Don’t you just love the coloring on the roses?
If you’re wonering if I feel any older, I can’t say that I do. I think age is often a relative concept anyway. Some 90 year olds are more fit than 50 year olds…and some 12 year olds worse off than 30 year olds. It’s all about taking care of yourself. I probably don’t always exercise as much as I should but I’m chasing after an 11 month old, a Newfoundland, my husband and myself…so I’ve got plenty to keep me moving. And as we get our garden squared away a little more each month, we’re also eating a lot better. I enjoy cooking anyway so what we’re eating is usually healthy and at least not loaded own with preservatives, sodium, artifical flavors and who knows what else. Healthy eating leads to a healthy life…
To all the fellow October birthday kids, hope you have a great birthday…and eat some cake for me!
Sounds like you are back on top of technology! Great birthday gifts. (or should I say presents!!) My 30th birthday hit me harder than any other…for a second. It is only a number. For my 50th Charlie (husband) arranged for the front yard to be filled with black crows…and a big sign that said welcome to the flock…as in I am now an old crow! The crows looked like Heckle and Jeckle from the cartoons. (this company also does pink flamingos) Birthdays are fun…enjoy!
Happy belated birthday.
I think once I got to 27 I had a moment when I said to myself “you’re really, truly a grown-up now” and since then I haven’t really felt much older with each passing year.
Thanks so much to you all for the lovely birthday wishes. I know I’m a spring chicken still (although so days I feel more like the old mule) 🙂 There’s so much living left to do and I’m not going to let a silly thing like my age put me in corners or hold me back!
Happy Birthday Tiffany! I don’t know why but I think 30 was the hardest birthday for me. I turned 30 while living ‘overseas’ in Austria. Perhaps this is why I enjoy your blog as it reminds me of my time over there which I thoroughly enjoyed. I’m nearly looking down the barrel of 50 now so that was a while ago. I ran my first marathon at 40, so I’m probably in better shape now than I was even back then, so it’s not always downhill as I might have thought on my 30th.
