Take the guess work out of meal planning
Do you ever have those moments in the morning or middle of the day (or even right before dinner should be served) when you just can’t get yourself to feel inspired in the kitchen? You’re sick of the old stand-by recipes and you just don’t have the time or energy to seek out something new and interesting — so you end up going out to dinner, picking up some fast food or ordering in,... read more

Top Ten Ground Beef Recipes
So I’ve been trying to get myself a bit more organized in the kitchen lately and although I still have a lot of ground to cover, I thought it would useful to start putting together a few lists of my favorite recipes that we eat all the time. You can never really have too many good recipes, right? And if you do any sort of meal planning, it’s really important to not only add new recipes from... read more

How to make Wiener Schnitzel
Here in Germany, Stefan and I have judged many a restaurant based on their schnitzel. If they can’t make that well, then there’s no reason to bother with most of their other food either. Schnitzel can actually be prepared many different ways but Wiener is the basic style which pretty much every restaurant in Germany serves. The others are more like cutlets served with various sauces and... read more

Monday Meal Planning: We aren’t bikers but we love how they cook
I’ve been trying meal planning for maybe a year now. The concept isn’t hard: sit down once a week, every two weeks, once a month (whatever works best for you) and write down a bunch of recipes. The recipes can be new, old, something you discovered…whatever sounds good. I usually write down the meals day-by-day, also noting if DH will be out of the house that evening (meaning I’m not... read more

Tex-Mex Chicken Tequila
I made this recipe a few weeks ago and froze half of the sauce. It tastes very similar to the Cajun Chicken Pasta we love to eat since it has the same basic ingredients, but I think with fresh jalepenos from our own garden this could be a really great dish. It’s just different enough to make it something new but we eat the cajun version so often that it was just a bit strange to try this now. The... read more

Turkey Tetrazzini – the dish that keeps on giving
Last night I made Turkey Tetrazzini. I have wanted to try this recipe for a long while and it’s always reminded me of my mom’s tuna casserole which I loved growing up. I doubled this recipe because I had twice as much turkey as I needed…and ended up with 3 small casseroles of this. So two of them are now in our incredibly full freezer, awaiting another burst of laziness from me. And we... read more

Meal plan: Revisiting some favorites
I finally got back into making meal plans again. I went all out this time and did 3 weeks at once. I haven’t stuck to it too well so far but at least our freezer is FULL of food and when I do feel like being a good homemaker, I have a variety of things to choose from. I decided to bring back some favorites from our previous meal plan and also threw in a couple newbies that I’ve wanted to try... read more

Quite possibly the best pizza I’ve ever eaten
Last night I finally made pizza and it was better than I ever imagined! I used the exact directions from Ricardo’s Pizza Crust over at AllRecipes.com and I was a bit concerned because the dough was extremely sticky. I also had to let the dough sit for a couple extra hours, in addition to rolling it out 3 times because I was a dolt. As a note to this crust recipe, I used a pizza stone to bake the pizza... read more

On the upcoming menu…
You may notice an abundance of zucchini during the first few days of this menu list. That’s because we have started getting some from our own plants and I actually bought some the other day in fear that ours wouldn’t be ready. Doh. Plus I was asked by a neighbor if we would like some zucchini, cucumbers and possibly tomatoes from their garden because they have too much. Heck yeah I want it! As... read more

Shrimp Fra Diavolo
We got a bit off schedule but finally did end up eating this very tasty dish last week. We left out the mushrooms because ours had started to grow again already and canned mushrooms just aren’t the same in things like this – but was very tasty regardless. I really like that it was so simple and quick to make and I’m fairly certain we will make this again. We usually have some frozen... read more
