When we were trying to “get it all in,” we planned trips that felt like a race: see everything, drive every other day, collapse at the end. Not anymore.
These days we travel slower, and we plan smarter. We pick a “hub,” stay a few weeks, explore on day trips and keep our drive days short. This planner is the system we built along the way, and it’s the same one we use for every trip we take now.
What’s inside
Plus a quickstart guide for newer RVers, our favorite tools and apps, and trip notes pages for the memories worth keeping.
A few of our planning rules
- Keep travel days short. 300 to 350 miles, or about 5 to 6 hours, is our max. Arrive rested, set up in daylight and still enjoy the evening.
- Move on weekends. Weekdays are for work, walks and settling in.
- Stay 2 to 4 weeks in one place. We call these “hubs.” Fewer setups, less fuel, and monthly rates are often far cheaper than nightly ones.
- Check the overnight lows. We don’t park anywhere nights drop below freezing. It protects your pipes and saves a lot of propane.
- Build in one cushion day. Weather, repairs or a slow morning happen. One extra day keeps a hiccup from turning into a scramble.
The rest of the rules, and the pages to put them to work, are in the planner.

A little about us
I’m Tiffany. My husband and I have been married more than 25 years, and these days we spend much of our time on the road in our fifth wheel. No Ordinary Homestead is where we share what we’ve figured out about RV life and travel, and about choosing a simpler way to live in midlife, so you don’t have to learn it all the hard way.
