Welcome to No Ordinary Homestead

I’m so glad you’re dropping by, and thanks for reading!

No Ordinary Homestead (NOH) is a lifestyle blog where I regularly post about ways to live a healthier, happier life, marriage, travel experiences, yummy foods, and Gen X life.

I’m Tiffany, the editor-in-chief of this blog, a happy wife for 26 years, mom to an awesome teenager on her way to becoming a commercial pilot, and fur-mom to our two cats and a Great Dane.

My husband, Stefan, and I are lucky to be celebrating over two decades together and still going strong. He is not only best friend and my soul mate but also a great mentor who pushes me further and loves a good adventure as much as I do.

Life is full of adventures and unexpected changes. Sometimes we welcome change and other times it blindsides us. I started NOH because I wanted a way to share my experiences with others, especially since I began my life as an expat in Germany.

Now in 2026, I’ve transitioned to sharing more about my Gen X life changes as I approach 50 and we become empty nesters. I’ve got so many things I’m learning about how to hack your body and why you should want to – plus some advice from a married couple who have “been there.”

I can’t wait to share those adventures with you, too.

Self-Care Habits That Actually Move the Needle

I was perusing the NOH archives recently and came across this vintage post called Ten Ways to Take Care of Yourself. Now wildly dated, my primary goal was to help out my fellow women by offering a few sound words of advice about life and how to survive. My passion...

Campground Review: Biloxi Bay RV Resort & Marina (Mississippi)

Starting our new travel lifestyle with a calm, coastal New Year’s stop with rules that mattered The time had finally come. Our bricks-and-sticks home in Texas was empty, with all the furniture and extra stuff in storage, and it was starting to get chilly in Texas....

Travel Tidbits

Shopping local taking hold of Germany

It may not come as a huge surprise to you that a lot of people in Germany shop at weekly farmer's markets for their foods. But what you may not have realized is that not all of the food you are buying at these markets (whether they are open air or more permanent like...

Flour in Germany: Not as easy as it seems

In America, it was quite easy. You went into the grocery story, you picked up a bag of flour, you took it home and you did whatever you wanted with it. It was the flour called for in every recipe known to man: all-purpose flour. And it would make sense that this...

Being brave at the butcher shop

About a month ago, I got a great question from a reader who has been living here in Germany for about 1.5 years but had not yet been brave enough to take a trip to the local butcher. Trust me, I'm not passing judgment...because it's a hairy situation and I wouldn't...

Happy Wife…

That brings back memories…

I was in my office this morning when I heard the familiar clinking of chains against trash container as a big orange blob moved in front of my window. A few hours later, I went upstairs and saw that 3 or 4 guys had been steadily working to fill the container...and...

What’s your gardening zone?

Although this doesn't help us much since we're living in Germany, this garden zone map from hgtv.com is really quite nice. They'll clue you in to your USDA zone, average minimum temperature, average last and first frost dates, planting ideas and much more.If I had to...

You can put your shoes in there… {William Morris}

I'm not too sure if The William Morris Project that Pancakes and French Fries began last year is going to be continuing in 2013, because she's starting a new project of self improvement and better living -- but around our house, there is still plenty of decluttering,...

A Well-Lived Life

Getting rid of the media case chaos

When Stefan and I first started dating (a million years ago) one of the first things we bought together was the entire collection of James Bond DVD's. And we didn't even have a DVD player. You remember those days right...when only about one-quarter of the world had...

BodyRock Challenge: Starting a whole new round of punishment

I first heard about Zuzana from BodyRock.tv about a month ago. Stefan showed me one of her workout videos which was being passed around the stock broker network in Frankfurt and I was both awed and inspired by her right then. Check her out in the video below; it's...

What I Wore Wednesday

Hi! I'm Tiffany and I'm new to WWIW, "Real Momma, Real Style" and fashion sharing link-ups in general. I've never really been one to follow trends or try to fit in with a crowd. And I tend to gravitate toward things that are classic, functional and long-lasting. Part...

The Great Edit

It all starts with a sink…

Ok, my hormone spike seems to have passed...and I have officially started on the first of the 31 day program from FlyLady. Wow, I kinda feel like a recovering alcoholic or something. 😉 I mentioned it before but the first step is to shine your sink...and keep it empty...

Our Amazing Kitchen Overhaul

We live in a 1,600 sq. ft. condo in SW Florida. It's plenty of room for just the three of us but we would like to have more places to store the stuff we have. Our current plans for the next decade or two will hopefully include a whole lot more travel, especially after...
