We took Ayla for an unusual walk this morning. Instead of heading a couple blocks down from our house and into the fields behind the new house, we decided to try to find a path which we’d seen last weekend with people walking on it. Unfortunately, we didn’t come anywhere close to figuring out how to get to that path…but we did find some back roads to the usual network of paths we walk on. We actually ended up on the same path we first tried to walk Ayla along when it was about 95 degrees out and no shade which resulted in us turning back for the car and air conditioning.

So were walking along and saw a large something up the path. It looked a bit like a Golden Retriever but would clearly have been the largest Golden I’ve ever seen. So we were walking along and the big playmate kept getting further away…but we did come to an intersection with another 6 month old puppy who turned out to be almost the same size as Ayla. It looked something like a Collie puppy but we didn’t ask. We did find out that his name is Neo, though, and he and Ayla ran around in the fields for what seemed like forever (and was probably about 10 minutes or so). When they finally came back, Ayla just plopped down on the ground and clearly wasn’t keen on the prospect of walking back home which would take another 5 -10 minutes. But we did manage to get her to her feet finally and said goodbye to Neo. We’re looking forward to seeing more of him around when we move & perhaps can set up some play dates for her. But the good news for us was that she was completely exhausted for the rest of the day so that we could get more work accomplished. A tired puppy is indeed a good puppy.
