Hi, this is “the hubby” weighing in on the report on renovating our new farm in Germany. It seems that we spend most of our time on actually getting things done around the new house, and of course life continues at home and at work, so we have actually accomplished more than our blog would suggest.

Since there might be some professional changes for me, and this would mean that my vacation time this year needs some major reshuffling, we decided it would be time to focus some more attention on making the farm “livable” before construction starts (hopefully) October 1st and I will now take Thursday and Friday of this week off as well.

We have already ordered another trash container and this time also opted to get a small bio container. They will be delivered on Thursday morning when the full one gets picked up.

For now, I have few concrete plans of what we will tackle in four days, but we do have some rough ideas:

  • Visit IKEA – well, we love IKEA and their assortment of products included the perfect sink, faucet, cabinets, etc. needed for our guest bathroom. We received the new catalog in the mail yesterday and it looks like they discontinued it. So, Thursday it will be interesting to see if they still have some of them left over, because it would be a shame if we had to go start our search from the beginning.
  • Finish Attic and Workshop clean out – Yes, more workshop cleaning. Even round two of the cleaning operation last weekend couldn’t get rid of all the junk left by the previous owners. So, this weekend, armed with yet another empty trash container, it will be time to finish those two rooms. Absolutely essential so construction can begin.
  • Clean out the basement – this should be interesting, last time we checked there where a bunch of cocooned spiders in the basement which we haven’t removed yet. I am pretty sure we will regret that procrastination as we proceed. However, while not terribly important to get the basement cleaned out, there is not so much stuff in there and it should be done in just a few short hours.
  • Clean out more bird poo – you heard correctly. We are still not done with the bird poo. While we were able to clean the majority of the bird poo rooms out the first weekend, there is one room we didn’t even know existed on the farm until we thought we had finished the nastiness. This means more fun for me this weekend.

We also want to get a handle on a few projects which will not be so physically demanding this weekend. So far everything required around the house has involved heavy lifting and physical strength. I’m not sure what this will include, but I really want to take the Dremel over there and start restoring some of the intricate metal work found around the house. Cross your fingers, this could get interesting.

I am sure we will find plenty more work along the way. At any rate, only a few short hours of work left this week, and then we are heading on out to the new place…
