Midlife doesn’t mean game over. For us it’s been the most interesting chapter yet: our daughter is almost grown, the house is emptied out, most of the stuff is gone, and we’re still each other’s favorite person after more than 25 years.
This is where we write about the part of life nobody hands you a manual for: marriage in the long run, parents who start needing you, letting go of things, taking care of yourself, and deciding what you actually want the next 20 years to look like.
Our story so far
NOH started when we were expats in Germany, sharing what we were learning about life abroad. We moved back to the States, raised our daughter, lived the farmhouse years, and slowly collected a lot of stuff we didn’t need.
In December 2025 we emptied the house, put the keepers in storage and moved into our fifth wheel full-time. We still work Monday to Friday, we just change the view on weekends. Next up: becoming empty nesters as our daughter heads off to college, and someday, trading the RV for a boat and life in the marinas.
Curious about the early years? The baby, expat and young-family posts live in The First Chapter.
