With the drive behind us, the car parked and our apartment checked into it was time to get settled in, it is now time to seek the other thing we hoped to find here in Locarno: PASTA. We are staying at the Residenza Motta in the heart of the old town of Locarno and the Restaurante Popolo is on a little piazza just a few steps from our front door. Locarno has a really nice feel to it in the old town – very italian, but with the swiss cleanlines. We are very happy with our decicision to test the defender in conditions like we would encounter going to spain later this year here.

The pasta was excellent and the wine ok, we tried a local red wine, but it was just a red wine with average flavor. 9SFr for a mixed salad was a bit steep, but we where so hungry it was a good thing we ordered it, and the ambience of sitting in the Piazza, catching glimpses of mountain peaks thtough the narrow alleys leading away from there more than made up for these two minors. In typical Italian fashion we chased the pasta with Ice Cream which we tracked down on the main strip of old town – wow, it was so creamy and delicious we already know we are coming for more tomorrow. As the evening was warm we finished the day with a stroll through old town – no particular agenda, but still catching some sights along the way.

Meanwhile it’s 9.15pm and I think it will be time for bed for us… tomorrow will be a day full of climbing in the mild climate around the Lago Maggiore.
