Well this was an exciting weekend. Grandma and Grandpa were here from the hubbies side and got to meet Ayla finally. They weren’t thrilled with the prospect of us getting a dog when we finally told them but since she’s our headache to deal with, they’ve cut us some slack. And who can resist that cute little Newfie face?

It was a pretty uneventful weekend. We took Ayla out Saturday morning to visit the stores of some of the local producers around here. Ayla stayed outside with Grandpa and got to greet everyone that came in the store. She does rather well hanging out outside the store. She would lay down and relax until someone started to approach then she had her whole body wagging in hopes that they would stop to pet her…and thankfully most did so she didn’t have to get that pathetic “why didn’t you stop to pet me?” look.

Probably the most exciting event for Ayla this weekend was the addition of some new toys. One the grandparents brought with them. It’s a ball from a company called DogIt which is supposed to be perfect for teething puppies…and she does seem to love it, especially since there’s a squeaker in it. We also bought her a ton of new toys when we went to Fresnapf on Saturday morning including a cow that moos and his paws squeak (pictures sure to come since she loves this thing), a few new kongs to put food in and keep her occupied (one just for puppies which is softer than the others and you can cover the bottom with peanut butter, freeze it so it forms a plug then fill it with water, chicken broth, etc and freeze again) and some other random toys. But as always, the best toys are free…when we went to one of the local produce stores, we let our shopping bags in the car so they gave us a fruit crate to carry everything in. When we got home, I tossed it outside the back door to get it out of the way. It didn’t take long for Ayla to jump in it and start tearing up the newspaper in the bottom. Then she decided taking a nap in there would be quite fun as well. Unfortunately for her, she started chewing on the edges and the wood of this box splintered very easy so she soon lost the toy…but not before we got pictures. lol

Ayla was of course on her best behavior although she did want to get up in the living room chair with Grandpa all the time. Thankfully she really didn’t have any of her sleepy or hungry FRAP moments where she starts trying to eat us. Somehow she seemed to listen to them better than us but that’s probably a bit our imaginations and just their ability of handle children and animals better.

So the next time they see her will be almost a month from now when we go visit them in mid June. It is the hubbers birthday and his dad’s birthday is 2 days later so we’ll be going down to celebrate with them and introduce Ayla to a new house, new restaurants, a new town and who knows what else.
