Rotisserie chicken at home
When we bought our home and added the kitchen, I knew I had to have two ovens. I don’t use them both often — but when I do want to cook a feast and need them, it’s priceless. This is a concept that really hasn’t caught in Germany, mostly because people have rather small kitchens anyway. Thankfully we already had one oven that we bought when we first moved to Germany which was part... read more

Sucked in again by impulse buys
I went to IKEA last week with my mom because she wanted to pick up a few goodies that she noticed us using around the house. Two of the things on her list are items that I use all the time and absolutely love: the KONCIS garlic press and the CHARM (now CHOSIGT) cheese grater containers (below). The garlic press has proved to be nearly indestructible, even with the huge garlic cloves we put in it. And the... read more

Finishing up stuff in the kitchen
While Stefan’s parents were here, his dad and he worked on several projects around the house that were not too labor intensive but still really needed to be done. One of those tasks was laying network cable through most of the main house. Yes, we have wireless here also…but it’s just not all that reliable unless it’s on a laptop. They were actually finishing up that task last Friday... read more

Hello, my name is Tiffany…and I have an organizing addiction.
Those who know me well might compare me to Monica from Friends. I have some slight OCD tendencies (stop laughing those who are scoffing that “slight” as being generous) and while I may not have our house spotless all the time (I just don’t have the time for it), I do love organization. Which is why I am kinda stoked to show off what the drawer under our cooking field now looks... read more

Before and After: The Old Kitchen Becomes an Office
This post is part of the Before & After series I’ve started about the renovation of our house. If you’d like to read more about our projects on the house, please visit our Farmhouse page. When we bought the house in August 2006, the kitchen in the main house was this room. The counter wasn’t quite as cluttered as it was here but otherwise this is what it looked like. All the... read more

Some say you get what you pay for….
This post was a bit too painful for me to make three weeks ago when this actually happened…but I guess time has dulled the pain a bit. My wonderful husband bought me 120 multi-colored tulips for Valentine’s Day and our house was just filled with them. I actually had a buy a couple of vases because I didn’t have anything I could put them all in. So we ended up buying two large glass... read more

Easter in the air
For the last two years, we have been traveling over Easter so I don’t really do much decorating. In addition, we didn’t have our own house most of the last 6 years we’ve been in Germany so I didn’t really get into the decorating mood. But I was at Metro the other day (like Costco & Sam’s Club) and saw some hanging eggs I just had to have. Since last winter, I’ve... read more

Before and After: The Kitchen Part 2
Continuing on from where we left off a few days ago in Part 1, we were in the middle of building a wall in the kitchen to split it into two rooms. Two days later, the wall was nearly finished which meant it was nearly time to start finishing out the ceiling and walls. We were also starting to get a feeling of what it would be like looking out from inside the kitchen and we liked what we saw although we... read more

Before and After: The Kitchen Part 1
Ok, I’ve been slacking off lately with the blog…I’m sorry. We recently dropped down from two laptop PC’s to one because we need a new charger cable for our old one and I just haven’t made it a priority to get a new one yet…but I definitely do need to because neglecting the blog just shouldn’t be allowed! Anyway, I figure it’s about time to pick up again with... read more

Sweeter than Yoohoo :-)
When Stefan got home last night, he managed to get the screws into the door to hold the handles in place so the fridge is more or less complete. Unfortunately we don’t have the correct adapter for the water connection so we will have to wait a few more days because we can test out the ice maker and water dispenser. But when we cooked dinner last night I loaded everything into the fridge and got to... read more
